Calling all anglers!
There's something magical about revisiting pieces of our childhood, especially when they can be blended with the passions we carry as adults. Growing up, one of my favorite memories was starting the day with a bowl of my favorite cereal, a simple but cherished ritual. This memory became more than just nostalgia recently when I decided to incorporate it into my work at Wayward Trading Post, where I handcraft fly fishing landing nets in Pennsylvania.
My latest project is a landing net that carries a bit of my younger self in its handle. I cast my favorite cereal into the handle using epoxy, capturing the colorful, playful spirit of those mornings. This choice wasn’t just about creating something visually unique—it was a way to connect the past with the present, adding a personal story into every piece I create.
In a world where so much is manufactured quickly, it feels good to slow down, work with my hands, and put thought into every detail of these nets. When someone picks up one of my nets, I want them to feel the quality, the craftsmanship, and maybe, if they look close enough, the sense of joy I felt as a kid eating breakfast, excited about the day ahead. At Wayward Trading Post, I strive to make each piece a reflection of not just nature but also the stories and memories that make us who we are.
By infusing a bit of myself into this net, I hope it becomes more than just a tool—it’s a piece of art, a slice of my journey, ready to join someone else's.
